21.05.2021 – A great recognition has been received by Rally di Roma Capitale, that together with Rally Azores, is the first event of the FIA Europan Rally Championship to be accredited with the two stars of the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme, that rewards the events that are virtuous in respecting the environment.
This important accreditation has been given after a careful evaluation and revision process that confirmed the Rally di Roma Capitale as an excellence also in this aspect. The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme is aimed at helping the actors of international motorsport, especially organizers, to evaluate and improve their environmental performance introducing a new philosophy oriented to a clear and coherent environment management regarding the motorsport event and mobility in general.
The evaluation system includes several parameters, among which the presence of dedicated staff to the study environmental protection, objectives, communication, energy and water usage, waste disposal and recycling, protection of the hosting territory, emissions and more. The Rally di Roma Capitale requested this certification as it devoted more and more attention to the green aspects of the event over the years. Examples of this are the electric bikes used in the Ostia Village in 2019, the recycling points in the most important locations of the rally or the monitoring of waste in the service park.
“Receiving the two stars of the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme in a historic moment in which motorsport and environmental protection are getting closer – Max Rendina, the soul and heart of the Rally di Roma Capitale commented – is a pride for all our staff. Even rally events have wide margins to implement good behaviours and policies to improve the environmental impact on the hosting territory. Probably no other sporting event, with the only exception of cycling, is so in contact with the hosting territory. We are always surrounded by the landscapes that welcome us and therefore we have the ethical duty to take care of these crucial aspects regarding environmental protection. I would like to thank all the people that gave us the privilege to be accredited with the two stars. We want this not to be the end point, but rather the starting point to build on for improving the green footprint of the Rally di Roma”.
